This was a great night of music featuring top-notch musicians. Matt Ulery’s “Loom” was great, as always, as was Mike Salter’s Freakjar. Rob Clearfield handled keyboard duties with both groups with aplomb. It was a really fun night for Gunnelpumpers as well, who put the show together.
While a little rain started falling before the first set, it became much more intense as the evening progressed. Lightning could be seen during all three sets, and by the end of the night, it became apparent this was no regular storm. The basement of at least one member of Gunnelpumpers flooded, two kittens were rescued from an alley that very same evening. Somebody had put a cardboard box over them in a Chicago alley. Why? To protect them from the rain? Who knows! We know for sure it separated their mother from them, and they both ended up at our house as fosters for Treehouse Animal Foundation. Unfortunately, the little boy kitten didn’t make it, but the girl, Faye, did. Now she’s a hale and hearty cat living with us.
